Such Talent

I met Joyce (Bennett) Blau in January of 1981. Stan introduced me to her and his father, John, soon after we began dating. The first thing that I remember about her way back then was her outstanding abiities to master practically any kind of handiwork out there. Such things included sewing, crocheting, knitting, etc. Through the years, Stan, the kids and I received several pieces of her artistry. 30 years later, it still astonishes me how one person could learn these so seemingly easily.

A month ago, the girls and I joined a club here in town where we are currently learning how to crochet, knit and tat. It has been a blast! We started out with our instructor and 8 "students". As of last night, we added 2 more people to our fun group. One of those people can already do BEAUTIFUL crochet work. The second enjoys doing embroidery. She plans on bringing her embroidery to "class" next Tuesday evening. While we are there, we enjoy a great deal of laughter and tell our personal and family stories to one another. We're really getting to know each other well! Last night, Janet entertained all of us with her perculator putting out some of the best hazelnut coffee imagineable! Of course, we also had to have some chewable refreshments also! LOL!!!

Leighlyn has been with us since the beginning when we first met. She evidentally took after her Grandma Blau because she picked right up on the art of crochet. Now, she is crocheting her very first afghan that she hopes to have finished in time for the Wichita county Fair in July. I'd say that given the fact that she has alread finished several rows just since last night, she will probably have it finished by then!

I'll keep you updated on her progress!
