Emergency Preparedness

We're right smack-dab in the middle of the dog days of summer. As a result of that, air conditioning systems in automobiles are apt to break down. Of course, it is not safe to drive very much with a lack of cool air in front of, behind and around you. If your air conditoning is experiencing some problems and you MUST use that vehicle to go long distance, I just heard today that emergency personnel are advising those people to take a towel, soak it in water and then place it in a freezer until it is frozen stiff. Then, when you are ready to board your vehicle, place this towel in a plastic sack and put in your vehicle. Once you begin to warm up, pull over, retrieve your towel which has probably softened a bit by then and wrap it around your neck or place it on your shoulders. The coolness will last you for a considerable amount of time. True, it won't be the most glamourous thing that you ever do but it might prevent you from suffering from heat strokes, etc.
