Rainbow Bridge

In our home, we take our herd very seriously. They are not merely dogs--they are extensions of our family. Today, our hearts have been broken and shattered. Our baby, TiLa, died a very tragic death yesterday evening. She was a beautiful long-haired Chihuahua who loved us every bit as much as we love her. It was always a joy to come home, open the front door and find her in the foyer dancing and singing with happiness at seeing us home again. At night, she curled in my arms where she spent the entire night. Tears are flooding my eyes now as I remember just how very much was taken away from us last night...

Today, I went to the Wichita County Register of Deeds Office to gather more information for the Wichita Credit Bureau. Soon after I had set up my paperwork, etc., I could no longer contain my grief. Tearfully, I told of the intense pain that our family was enduring right now to Connie Wilson and Heather Leimkuhler. Both ladies were very kind and supportive in my definite time of need. Later, Heather returned with this poem that I found to be quite comforting.

If you are one of those people who does not become emotionally involved with dogs, you are probably laughing at my pain right now. If, on the other hand, you have experienced your own pain and sorrow after losing one of your very best friends, you may find peace in these words.

Rainbow Bridge Poem

Author Unknown

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed, are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then, you cross Rainbow Bridge together..."

Rest in peace, TiLa. We love you, little baby...

Thank you, Heather and Connie! Your friendship means the world to me!!!
