Drivers License Examinations

Several years ago, our local drivers license office was closed in order to save money at the state level. Since then, people had been having to go to Tribune or Scott City when it was time to apply for or to renew a license. Of course, that was not very convenient for us. Fortunately, that has now changed! Every Tuesday through Friday, people can go to the Wichita County Treasurer's Office to take care of that business. You can do this from 8:00 to noon or 1:00 to 4:00. They only do renewals. No CDLs (Commercial Drivers License--for truck drivers, can be done here.) There is only one drawback. In order to reach the office which is on the first floor, you must climb several steps to reach the office. If that is something that you are not able to do, you can go to the Scott County Courthouse now. Please call Sharon and the girls at 375-2715 if you have any additional questions.

I called the Scott County Courthouse to get information from them also. The Drivers License Examiner is there every Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 11:30 and from 12:30 to 4:30. You need to go to the Treasurer's Office which is also on the first floor. Once again, steps are required to get there but in this case, Scott County Courthouse provides a lovely elevator to get you to any of their floors without having to use any steps. That was just added in the past several years.

Just thought that you might appreciate some of this information!

  1. Lynn, I do have a correction. Wichita County has a stair lift that is accessible from each floor...using the back door, which is the "handicapped accessible" door or the north door. However, be fore-warned as it has been known to stop mid-floor and leave rider sitting for various lengths of time! At least the courthouse must feel it meets the ADA requirement by providing this instrument of chance...ride at your own risk!
