Ex-Wichita Countian receives prestigious award.

About 40 Garden City Police Officers were just recognized for their service at the GCPD annual awards ceremony.

The Employee-of--the--Year Award went to Kathy Fairchild-McGaughey, who helped activate a new radio system, 2 new telephone systems and a battery back up.

When asked how she felt of the honor, McGaughey said that it was nice to be recognized with the award from her co-workers.

An awards committee decides what officers and staff receive each award. Employees submit recommendations to their supervisor, then the awards comittee reviews those recommendations. After that, the police chief chooses the employee-of--the--year. The awards are for work done from January through December of the previous year.

Kathy is the daughter of Lee and Rilla Fairchild of Leoti. She graduated from WCHS in May of 1986. Her brothers are Mark and Terry Fairchild who also graduated from WCHS.
