Wonder why you are noticing donkeys and mules in cattle pens?

Lately, I have been seeing donkeys and mules in pens and fields with herds of cattle. Stan took us out to a field of them a few months ago. Until last night, I did not know what the reason was. Come to find out, ranchers use them as a Security device.

A mule or donkey in a pen with cows believes that the cattle are his/her family. Therefore, when an enemy of the cattle enters onto the cattle's property, the mule or donkey attacks it with his/her legs by kicking it. Often, the donkey will not stop kicking the predator until the predator such as a coyote, fox, etc is dead. They are especially protective of the calves.

Now...you know the rest of the story. LOL!!!
