A Compliment For Neil Fletcher

As you probably already know, I posted information on this past week's WCHS musical production a few days ago. You should also know that I gave it incredible comments. The students did a terrific job under the fine direction of their teacher, Mrs. Torie (Graff) Koehn!

Many people stuck around after the musicals or saw the actors later and conversed with them about their devine performances. I was one of those people who was able to catch up with some of them. Unfortunately, I never caught up with Neil Fletcher who is the 2nd son of Greg and Melissa (McDonell) Fletcher. Though I did not get to talk to him, others who did told me about what he had to say to the fans of the musical. He thanked the compliment givers very kindly as well as invited them to come back and watch the musical again.

Maybe you are wondering why I am pointing out what he said on my blog. Well, the reason is quite simple. My parents raised my two sisters and me to ALWAYS be polite. It caught on to us and eventually, we trained our own children to do the same. Unfortunately, using good manners does not appear to be of much importance to many of today's youth. By hearing what Neil had to say, it is quite evident that he has been taught correctly!!!

After the performance, I expressed my praise for several of the actors. In most cases, the actors responded with something to the effect of "O kay" or just a grunt of some sort. What a disappointment to me as well as others who I have discovered were treated the same way.

I don't understand why I should be surprised on this issue. After all, I have gotten to know a great deal of kids ever since our son, Adam, came into our home in 1989. We have welcomed his friends as well as our daughters' friends in to our home many-a-time. We've also visited with their classmates at school functions such as holiday room parties. One common denonimater, unfortunately, is that the majority of these kids never seem to know how to say simple words such as please, thank you, no, thank you, you're welcome, etc. I am angered when kids or adults think that it is appropriate to belch in public! Another absolutely irritating thing that they do is stick their fingers into their noses!!! Recently while I was eating a meal, a girl came up to me and asked me "what I was doing". Like, duh!!! When I turned my head to look at her, I discovered that this girl was within 24 inches of my dinner plate and was PICKING HER NOSE!!! Maybe I should surround myself with more people like her. I would definitely be persuaded to eat much less food if I did!!! Yes, I find things such as that to be TOTALLY gross!!! I am the only one who does?????????

Another tid bit on the subject of the picking of noses, for many years whenever friends spent the night with any of our three children, I wash the sheets and pillow cases the next morning. Why??? Because I have seen a few of these kids picking their noses in our children's beds. UGH.....

Where are parents and why are they not teaching simple every day manners to their children??? I do not expect kids to know which fork is supposed to be used with what kind of food set out in front of them. I just want them to know what is appropriate in our daily life skills.

Anyway, getting back to Mr. Fletcher. You were amazing in the musical and so pleasant for your fans who had the chance to congratulate you after the musical!!!

And...a BIG thank you goes out to Greg and Melissa for teaching your sons the manners that they have and exhibit every day!!!

VLE-B
