Southern Macaroni and Cheese

8 ounces of raw macaroni
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
3 tablespoons of chopped butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
a large egg
1/2 cup milk (2% or regular)
1/2 cup bread crumbs
additional 3 tablespoons of butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease baking dish.

Place macaroini in boiling water. Cook until tender, usually 8-10 minutes. Drain.

Layer macaroni, cheese, butter, salt and pepper in dish. Save some of the cheese to place on top of the macaroni and cheese.

Mix milk and egg together. Pour over the macaroni layers.

Melt the additional 3 tablespoons of butter and combine with the bread crumbs. Spread the buttered bread crumbs over the top of the macaroni and cheese. Top with the remainder of the cheddar cheese.

Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes or until the egg and milk are throughly cooked and the top is brown.
