This afternoon, the girls and I headed out to the Seaboard Mill to do our cleaning. Of course, our Chloe, had to go with us! She stays in the vehicle while the girls and I go inside. For the past month or so, I have gotten really good about pulling my car keys and taking them in wherever I go. Today...I forgot them. Stupid!!!!!
Once we had completed our cleaning, we went back to get into the van to come back home. THAT'S when we discovered just one itsy, bitty problem. Chloe had managed to hit the one button that is required to lock each and every lock.
No big deal.. Stan's Buick was parked just a few feet away. We would just go there, get his keys, unlock the doors and we'd be heading home. Wrong... His keys were not in the car. I called him on his cellphone. Seems he took the keys with him this morning. Given the fact that he was out delivering feed, we either had the choice of calling the police for help or sit there and wait. Given the fact that we needed to be home starting dinner for our evening with our son and daughter-in-law, we opted to call the police. Fortunately, a friend of mine (Bev Brown) was dispatching. She and I shared several laughs before the Deputy Sheriff Johnny Meese arrived at the scene.
Johnny didn't waste any time getting our doors unlocked and us back on the road again! Thank you, Johnny!!!
But before the deputy arrived, I received a phone call from my brudder-in-law, Leif Christensen. He had just heard my call of distress coming across the police radio. Leif wanted to know if he could help us. Given the fact that Leif was in Garden City for the day, I thought that that would be rather impossible unless we were willing to remain at the Mill for a few more minutes.
Then Leif told me that he could not help if we were locked OUT of the vehicle but if we were locked IN the vehicle, he thought that he could probably give us the directions to open the doors and step outdoors. Hmmm...if you know me personally, you would understand why Leif was having to ask me that question!!! LOL!!!
We are so fortunate in Wichita County to have a sheriff's department who still comes to our need in this type of problem. Many departments through the nation no longer provide this service.
