Coconut Ambrosia Salad

Last night, my daughters and I decided to go back to the bedroom that I share with Stan and watch our DVD of Steve Martin and John Candy's PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES. Ever since this movie came out, it has been one of my very favorite shows! There is a place in the movie where an employee of the Marathon Car Rental business is conversing with her sister about the following day's Thanksgiving dinner. They are discussing Ambrosia Salad. I decided right then and there that I needed to post this recipe here for you. It is quite easy to put this together and is well-liked by the people who will share it!

The coconut in this recipe is optional in case your family does not care for it.

1 11-ounce can of mandarine oranges; drained
1 8-ounce can crushed pineapple; drained
3 1/2 cups frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip); thawed
2 cups miniature marshmallows
1/2 cup milk
1 cup of maraschino cherries

In a large bowl, combine the oranges, pineapple, chipped topping, coconut, marshmallows and milk. Mix well and chill for one hour before serving. Garnish with the cherries.
