Veterans Day in Leoti

It all began at the Leoti Grade School, now known as Robert Bruce Stewart Elementary School, just as it will end today, November 11th, 2010. Three veterans from the county will raise the flag as the students will look on while paying their respect to the men and women who did their part in keeping the people of the United States of America free. This will take place at 8:20 this morning in front of R.B.S.E.S.

I visited with Mrs. Sheri Kreutzer, longtime 5th grade teacher, who is well-known for her outstanding and tear-jerking programs honoring our veterans. She told me that given the fact that this will be the last Veterans Day at the current grade school that it just made sense to finish off the morning tradition just as it began many-a-year ago. I, for one, really like that idea.

On the topic of the grade school's name, I know that many of you out there have wondered if the new elementary school in Wichita County will retain the R.B.S.E.S. name. I've done some checking on that. The last that I knew, the topic has not been decided. Mr. Stewart was a long-time principal in Leoti whom everyone who had the priviledge of "going to school with him", dearly loved and respected. He set the standards very high for any principal who was asked to walk in his footsteps. He was an outstanding man.
